System to cut traffic pollution in Swansea from 2015

The system named Nowcaster costs around $157000USD and basically sends messages about air, traffic and weather conditions to traffic signals in main streets of the city. The messages suggest alternative routes to drivers avoiding the increase of pollutants in air.

It took two years to get to this point and start the project. Is one of the first systems established in UK for the environment’s improvement in Swansea’s communities with air pollution. The project would start early next year.

Opinion

This is a great idea but is not a total solution to the air pollution problem. I understand that a final solution is impossible because all the world economies are looking for a fast and helpful growth and that means damage for the environment. The system takes drivers to other places in the city which are freer of pollutants and this decrease levels in some of those places but increases in others.
